How Curtains and Blinds Prevent Home Security Issues

How Curtains and Blinds Prevent Home Security Issues

Thieves will enter a home in one of two ways: through the doors and through the windows.  Most doors come with doorknob locks and deadbolts but windows can often be overlooked. For this reason, it is important to increase the security of your home by making sure your windows are not inviting a break in.  One of the best and easiest ways to prevent home security issues in your home is by using blinds and curtains.  We have provided you with some of the ways using blinds and curtains can help increase security in your home.

1. Eliminates Outside Visibility – Good quality blinds and/or curtains that are not see-through prevent anyone from seeing inside your home.  Many thieves will look inside your home when you are not home to scope it out and see what kind of furnishings you may have that they are interested in.  Having blinds and curtains in place and closed will prevent them from being able to see what is inside. If they can’t see what is inside they are a lot less likely to try breaking in.

2. Prevents Thieves from Learning Habits – Since the thieves interested in breaking into your home will not be able to see inside, they will not be able to learn your routine either.  This is enhanced even more if you use times on your lights and electronics so they will not be able to tell when you go to bed or when you are leaving the home, especially if there is a vehicle left in the driveway or garage when you are away.  Some thieves will break in even if you are home in bed, so if there is a chance you are awake, they will think twice about attempting a break in. Make sure your timers are random so there is no pattern of lights coming on and going off that they can pick up on.

3. Takes Away the ‘Ease of Access’ Factor – Heavy curtains and blinds are great deterrents for a thief that is looking for an easy in/easy out target. Having to fight the blinds and/or curtains and not knowing if there is a dog or alarm system on the other side of them will usually encourage them to seek another target and move on.  It is not a guarantee of course, but it can definitely make them think twice.

When a thief can see everything you have in your home it can almost be an invitation for them to come back and attempt a break in. This is even more prevalent at Christmastime when presents are stacked under the tree.  You don’t want a thief to be able to easily look into your windows and see your TVs, computers, valuables and more.  Using quality blinds and heavy, non-see thought curtains will take away one of the common methods they use to scope out homes and decide who they will target.

Even good quality blinds and curtains are usually inexpensive, which makes them a great choice to use in combination with other methods.  Even if you have a home security system, using blinds and curtains can help reduce the chances of a break in even more.  They are the perfect choice to use with any of the other home security methods you are interested in and they provide you with privacy as well.

Dual Roller Blinds- curtains and blinds

Double roller blinds have become very popular in Australia because they are perfect for the climate in general. Having a blackout blind underneath will help to keep light from entering into your space for optimum temperature control and light control. The sunscreen blind allows you to still see through the window while reducing light and enjoying the view. Generally these style of blinds will give you added privacy, control light and ensure you can still look out and admire your view.
