Thanks for following up my order so promptly. The curtains arrived at James' work on Wednesday and we put them up in the nursery Thursday. They look lovely.

Close-up on curtains

While many home owners continue to focus their interest on blinds, the traditional curtain continues to undergo a boom, with a multitude of exotic prints and fabrics inspiring consumers to opt for the timeless elegance of the drape. And aside from the grace of a beautifully hung set of curtains, their insulating and privacy-enhancing properties are second to none.

For those who think a curtain is a simple product, think again! There are a vast number of curtain options available, each offering a different look and function. Just some of them are listed here.

Pinch pleat curtains

Pinch pleat curtains

Pinch pleat curtains are ideal for a traditional or elegant look. So named because the top of the curtain is literally pinched together, the pleats are evenly spaced and usually weighted at the bottom of the seams. A pinch pleated drape is hung usually using curtain hooks attached to a rod or rings that hang from a decorative rod.

Pencil pleat curtains

Pencil pleat curtains

Pencil pleat drapes are a fairly standard curtain that provides a more casual look for your curtains, with the folds of the drape falling in a soft and evenly spaced manner. Many curtains come in a pencil pleat finish, which adds a great finish to any interior.

Box pleat curtains

Box pleated curtains are characterised by deep folds that generally follow the full length of the curtains and have a formal, pleated look. They work very well in classic or formal homes, in particular in rooms where visual impact is needed, such as sitting or dining rooms.

Eyelet Curtains

Eyelet Curtains

For a more contemporary look, eyelet curtains are made using metallic rings at the header through which the curtain rod is ‘threaded’. Eyelet curtains are ideal for light to medium weight fabrics they are a great option for a modern bedroom or lounge.

Tab top curtains

Similar to eyelet curtains, tab top curtains have fabric loops on the top and are hung on a rod. Again, these are great for more informal or contemporary settings.

Sheer curtains

Sheer curtains are a very attractive option that lets in light and allows some degree of privacy from the outside looking in.They are often, but not always, used in conjunction with heavier curtains that ensure greater privacy and protection from glare. With a wide array of interesting fabrics now on the market, sheers’ ability to let light in can create beautiful visual effects.

Blackout curtains

The best blackout curtains are able to block about 99% of the light that would ordinarily flow into your window. This light blocking ability is great for areas where light control is necessary, such as children’s bedrooms or home cinemas. Given the extremes of the Australian climate, they are also a great way of protecting interior carpets and fabrics from the glare of the sun during the hotter months of the year.

The choice of curtains available can be a little overwhelming – so if you’re uncertain about what to choose, seek the guidance of an expert. And it’s also worth noting that good installation is absolutely critical to make the most of your investment in curtains!
